Whenever you drive your car, and especially during the spring and summer, contaminants such as pollen, dust fungus spores, ozone, and other airborne pollutants, enter your car's cabin through the air conditioning or ventilation system.   Most new Vauxhalls however, are fitted with an active carbon cabin filter, which removes still smaller particles. Change your pollen filter for cleaner air

 I haven't heard of a pollen filter

Don't worry, your not alone, a lot of people haven't never heard of a pollen filter and don't know that their car is equipped with one.  In fact there are two types, formally known as cabin filters and active carbon cabin filters.

Why do I need a pollen filter?

Whenever your drive your car, and especially during the spring and summer, contaminants such as pollen, dust, fungus spores, ozone, and other airborne pollutants, enter your cars cabin through the air conditioning or ventilation system. According to research this can make the air in your car up to six times dirtier than the air outside! Pollen grains can cause allergic reactions, and ozone especially in the summer, can cause headaches and nausea.

What does it do and how does it work?

The pollen filter (cabin filter) can be found in the engine compartment, or cabin, close to the windscreen. The filter is in effect an incredibly fine sieve. Cabin filters use a combination of mechanical filtration along with an electrostatically changed layer to provide most of the filtration. This enables the filter to capture tiny particles, such as pollen, dust and plant spores. Most new Vauxhalls however, are fitted with an active carbon cabin filter, which removes still smaller particles. Furthermore, due to an extra layer of activated carbon, it also removes nasty odours and harmful gases such as exhaust fumes and ozone.

Do I need to check it or change it?

As the filter gets clogged up with material it will become less effective at protecting you and your passengers. Therefore Vauxhall MasterFit recommend that your pollen filter is changed around every 18,000 miles or every second year.

What is the right pollen filter for my car?

Your local Vauxhall MasterFit retailer can offer expert advice on the right pollen filter for your car. They will always recommend that you use Vauxhall genuine pollen filters, which are designed for long-life and have an extremely reliable dual-filter system. Other less effective makes of pollen filter have been found to contain water absorbing filter material which is an ideal base for bacteria and fungus to thrive resulting in hazardous air quality and misting up of windscreens.
