Car Tax Bands
Eco cars saving you money
First year rates - Cars registered on or after 1 April 2010
From 1 April 2010, anyone buying a new car will pay a different rate of vehicle tax for the first tax disc. These are known as 'first year rates'.
From the second tax disc onwards, the standard rate of vehicle tax will apply. This will send a stronger signal to the buyer about the environmental implications of their car purchase and will only apply to new cars, not already registered cars.
Please note that the rates in the table below are only payable for a vehicle's first tax disc taken out at first registration. All other tax discs will be charged according to the standard rate tables.

Our new ecoflex fuel efficiency service
Go Green, Save money
The new Vauxhall ecoflex fuel efficiency service could help the environment, but just as importantly it could save your money.
It is a proven fact that adjusting certain elements of your car, for example the pressure of your tyres can help your engine run more efficiently. This in turn uses less fuel and reduces emissions released into the atmosphere. Meanwhile, you spend less filling your car.
All the elements of this service are proven ways of helping to improve fuel efficiency. Helping tips to improve efficiency There are many easy ways to help improve fuel efficiency and reduce your carbon emissions.
Pump your tyres
Inflating your tyres to the recommended pressure level cuts down on the resistance your tyres endure while moving, meaning your engine doesn't have to work as hard.
Lighter loads
Keeping lots of things in your boot creates extra weight that your vehicle has to carry around. Take out any un-needed items from your car to cut down on both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Drive at the right speed
Speed limits are there for a reason. Not only will driving at the speed limit increase your safety, it will also reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. At 70mph, you use 9% more fuel than 60mph, and up to 15% more than 50 mph.
Less stopping and starting Every time you stop then start again in a traffic queue, the engine uses more fuel and therefore produces more CO2. Keep an eye on the traffic ahead and slow down early by gently lifting your foot off the accelerator while keeping the car in gear.
Revving your engine wastes fuel and increase emissions Revving up like a formula 1 driver wastes fuel and emits more CO2. Try changing up a gear at a lower rpm. For petrol cars, try 2,500rpm and 2,000rpm for diesel cars.
Avoid prolonged stationary periods When idling, your car is wasting fuel and still emitting CO2. So if you're going to be at standstill for more than three minutes. Switch off your engine.
What's covered in the ecoflex service?
Tyre pressures
Tyres that are inflated to the correct level will help your fuel efficiency. Tyre abnormal wear A visual check for any abnormal tyre wear that may reduce their overall efficiency. Brake binding This ensures your brakes aren't ‘binding' and wasting fuel. Wheel bearingsCheck for play and insecurity that could increase friction.
Air conditioning efficiency Ensures your air conditioning system is working to its optimum. Oil filter change Removes particles that can affect the performance of your oil. Change oil to highest specifications (GM Dexos 2) The oil is designed to give smooth performance, low emissions and improved fuel economy helping to preserve the life of your engine.
Add fuel system cleaner
Cleanses your fuel system to make sure it burns fuel more efficiently. Advice More tips to help improve fuel efficiency and reduce your carbon emissions.
